Manipulating Text

The Formatting Toolbar can be used to change the appearance of the text on your page.

Headings

There are six basic heading styles:

Heading 1

Heading 2

Heading 3

Heading 4

Heading 5
Heading 6

Headings can be selected from the Style dropdown menu on the Formatting Toolbar.

Using headings helps text stand out, and is useful in making your page more organized and easier to read.

Boldface
Italics
Underlining

Apply these effects to your text using the appropriate Formatting Toolbar buttons.

Use italics sparingly, as they do not display well on some monitors.

(Underlined text should rarely be used, as it can easily confuse visitors, most of whom will initially interpret it as a hyperlink.)

Alignment

You can shift your text so that it's

left justified,

centered,

 or right justified

by using these buttons.

The Formatting Toolbar also includes buttons to turn your text into a numbered or bulleted list, indent it, apply a colored "highlight" behind it, or apply color to the text itself.

We'll get more into making wise color selections shortly. First, we'll discuss fonts.
