Publishing Your Site

When you're finished designing your site, you're ready to publish it to the web, for the rest of the world to see!

You can do this one of two ways:

If your Web space is equipped with "FrontPage extensions" (check with your Web host to find out for certain), you can let FrontPage do all the publishing work for you.

  1. From the File menu, select Publish Web... to bring up the Publish Web window.

  2. Type in your domain name (if you have one) or the address of your Web space. (Your Web host will probably provide you with directions specific to your particular situation.)

  3. Click on the Publish button. FrontPage will prompt you for your password in order to access your Web space. Enter the password you selected (or the one assigned to you by your Web host), and then FrontPage will publish your pages to your Web space.

  4. When this process is completed, you should be able to view your site in a browser window by typing in the appropriate URL, or Web address. If you encounter a problem, contact your Web host.

If your Web space does not come with "FrontPage extensions", you can still publish your pages to the Web, but you'll probably have to do it yourself using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. (I've suggested a couple good FTP clients on the resources page.) Each FTP program is a bit different, but most are pretty user-friendly.

Your Web host will have specific directions on what needs to be entered where in your FTP program, in order to upload your files successfully to your Web space. Contact them if you require assistance.
