Background Images

One alternative to using a solid color for your page is to use a tiled background image. (This works in a similar manner to setting your Windows desktop wallpaper, for example.)

Several background images come with FrontPage, and there are untold numbers of free background images available on various Web sites. One caveat, however:  While some of these images may look attractive, they can often make your page much more difficult to read ... so choose wisely!

The images below — though attractive — would be poor choices (in most cases) for use as background images:

Click on any of the below background images to see a sample page using it.
(Use the "Back" button on your browser to return here.)

Applying a Background Image to Your Page

  1. Right-click on an open area of your page and select Page Properties... from the Shortcut Menu.

  2. Click on the Background tab, and check the box marked Background picture.

  3. Click on the Browse... button to bring up the Select Background Picture window.

  4. From here, you can select a graphic already saved in your "images" folder, from elsewhere on your computer's hard drive, from a disk, from the Web, or from Microsoft's Clip Art Gallery. Once you've selected an image, click OK to close the window(s). Your new background image will be applied to the current page.
